[11:10] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: I don't have any coding related news this week. Only major news item is whether InWorldz will get the money they need from a fund raising campaign so they can keep the grid running.
[11:12] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: What do you want to talk about today re: Open Simulator?
[11:12] TG.Lucan @hg.viewtwo.net:8600: Worth noting from a reliabilty prospect, mono 5.12
HttpWebRequest async handling rewritten. This resolves many long-standing and hard to reproduce issues involving requests cancellation or timeout. As HttpWebRequest is used as the underlying implementation by other types like HttpClient this should improve the reliability of a broad range of types.
[11:13] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: This is a very important information, Lucan. Thank you
[11:13] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: I know of a grid that was looking to get a weather system in place.
[11:14] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: It was supposed to avoid having rain and things winding affecting interiors of buildings.
[11:14] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: well about mono and software news, usually i prefer to wait for real performance
[11:15] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: I've updated a grid, and my own standalones, to use mono 5.12
[11:15] Gavin.Hird @grid.xmir.org:8002: That weather system is still in LL's viewer development plans, but they have other things to fix first...
[11:15] TG.Lucan @hg.viewtwo.net:8600: just info do with as you please
[11:15] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: Gavin, they will probably come out with the weather system first based on past history.
[11:15] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Thank you, Lucan
[11:15] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: ll did had some complex wind simulation.. thing they simplified it
[11:17] Gavin.Hird @grid.xmir.org:8002: right, there are quite a few server side functions that needs to be added for the viewer to be able to use it as I understood from their dev meetings
[11:17] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: I think most people aren't aware of wind unless they are using sailboats or some gadget that follows the wind (ie. weather vanes).
[11:17] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: well think you all seen the news about possible InWorldZ shutdown by the end of the week
[11:19] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Their software release is proprietary, right?
[11:19] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: They have a gofundme page but AFAIK they don't get the money unless they raise the amount specified for the campaign. They are already 50% of the way there.
[11:19] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: seems they decided instead ask for ppl help and aparently they almost got all the capital they asked for
[11:20] Sheera Khan: 14000+ out of 17k right now
[11:20] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: so possible they will survive this crisis
[11:20] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: I was just reading they are up to $11,000 so far
[11:20] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: I wonder how far that will bring them .. maybe to a zero, but still not sure about the future
[11:20] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: wow, I could say something really un popular but , yeah no
[11:20] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: Over 13k collected in about 16 hours. That's amazing.
[11:21] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: I personaly was never a fan on InWlz
[11:21] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Say please, Bill
[11:21] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: their shutdown would had been a loss for the entire community globally considered of course
[11:22] Gavin.Hird @grid.xmir.org:8002: yes
[11:22] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: so lets hope for the best
[11:22] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: I don't think they ever really contributed anything / there Physics engine is closed so is there Grid software
[11:22] George Equus: seems IAR's made from InWorlz are not compatible with rest of opensim..
[11:23] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: right .. whatever that means
[11:23] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: and that too George
[11:23] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: well im not going into those "wars"
[11:23] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: it's a closed grid
[11:23] Cuga Rajal: They have a great LSL script collection on their website
[11:23] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: That's not a war, Ubit, that is technical,. If an iar is incompatible, that is a pure technical question
[11:24] George Equus: Left several years ago, and cleaned out my small inventory. Too much drama for me..
[11:24] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: George, Their inventory backup is stated as only working with their own grid. I don't know if they have any information anywhere about the file format they are using.
[11:24] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: beening closed.. not considering to be even a opensim grid... even so their loss would had been a loss for all also.
[11:24] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: no skin off my back / best of luck to them
[11:25] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: umm it is not true that their software is NOT available, every heard of Halcyon
[11:25] Leighton.Marjoram @grid.opensim.life:8002: things have not been good over there for some time, I wish them no ill but they made it abundantly clear that they are not opensim. That kinda put my back up.
[11:25] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: Bill, isn't that just the physics engine?
[11:25] Sheera Khan: even including their script engine Phlox
[11:25] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: no
[11:25] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: LOL
[11:25] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: yep I have and as far as I know Halcyon is incompatible fork of Open Sim and Mooses
[11:25] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: it is the entire server
[11:26] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: the only things that are any good else where are the .OAR files
[11:26] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: Halcyon is the release of the IW code, as part of an agreement to work with Moses
[11:27] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: but even their oar files use one of the older formats
[11:27] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: yeah and eventually the Army cut that off / Mooses is completly closed code base now
[11:27] Sheera Khan: well, it is a fork of OS 0.6.x after all ...
[11:27] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: NO
[11:27] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: it is not closed
[11:27] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: dead maybe but not closed
[11:27] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: ok
[11:27] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: well even the use of those OARs whould raise several copy rights issues..
[11:28] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: i stand corrected
[11:28] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: closed infers that it is not opensource
[11:28] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: and it is
[11:28] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: bc they are a closed comercial grid.
[11:28] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: https://github.com/InWorldz/halcyon
[11:29] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: i twas updated as lately as 11 days ago
[11:29] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: but for the sake of their users comunity, lets hope they do get over this crisis
[11:29] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: that part I agree with Ubit, but I hope their users don't forget this, forgive maybe, but not forget
[11:29] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: and as i said the global comunity of this type of simulation systems
[11:29] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: @Ubit / I agree :_)
[11:29] Sheera Khan: I completely agree with you there, Ubit
[11:30] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: right
[11:31] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: and think andrew will agree with me stating that this is the "Official Opensimulator Core" position :)
[11:32] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: well at least the Opensimulator Core present here now
[11:32] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: :)
[11:32] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: :)
[11:32] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: Indeed. I hope they are able to weather this storm.
[11:32] Gavin.Hird @grid.xmir.org:8002: I have an account there that is almost as old as my OGrid account, so it would be a shame to see them go
[11:33] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: I have an account there but I don't visit InWorldz that oftne.
[11:33] Gavin.Hird @grid.xmir.org:8002: OSGrid*
[11:33] Leighton.Marjoram @grid.opensim.life:8002: my only word of caution would be not to throw good money after bad.
[11:33] Gavin.Hird @grid.xmir.org:8002: I only log on now to test the viewer code
[11:33] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: I haven't been visiting many of the grids in which I have a presence.
[11:34] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Andrew, you still have an unfinished shop on 3rd Rock Grid  :-)
[11:34] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: so andrew mre issues on the agenda for today ?
[11:34] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: Support them yes, support the community yes, but let's not hold up bad business decisions as a case for charity ... (people gonna hate on that)
[11:35] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: I don't have any OS topics for today. Does anyone else have any OS related topics to talk about? If not we can get out of here early for a change.
[11:35] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: Eldovar, I know.
[11:35] Cuga Rajal: Hard to see long future of big grids when OS core and HG are working so well and home fiber more common :)
[11:35] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: I'm trying to decide if I need to make a small building or not.
[11:35] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: nope. don't have today :-)
[11:36] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Can you operate Blender, Andrew?
[11:36] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: Eldovar, I can.
[11:36] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: excellent
[11:36] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: If you are talking about modelling, I prefer to do that in Rhinoceros 3D.
[11:36] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: I'd suggest you don't make a building, but an open stand
[11:37] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org nods
[11:37] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Just a nice cornerframe aroound your goods
[11:37] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: too small for a building
[11:37] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: If there isn't any OS topics for today we can close the meeting for today.
[11:38] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: ... and when you come, you will se that a lot has changed there on that region. You will like it
[11:38] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: I have not been here in a while / hows the HTTP testing soming along Andrew ?
[11:39] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: First time that I can recall a meeting ending early. See you all again next week.
[11:39] Cuga Rajal: Thanks to Ubit for fixing stuff this week (stuff I cared about :)
[11:39] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Thank you, Andrew
[11:39] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: oh, now you have something to discuss? :)
[11:39] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: lol
[11:39] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: HTTP ?
[11:39] George Equus: New website is very good. kudos to Paela!
[11:39] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: JayR, I haven't been doing any testing of the HTTPS if that is what you meant. Ubit was working on that.
[11:40] JayR.Cela @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: oh OK :_)
[11:40] Leighton.Marjoram @grid.opensim.life:8002: Nods @ George very nice website
[11:40] George Equus: He want translations, French is done.
[11:41] Cuga Rajal: Question About http
[11:41] Cuga Rajal: Will this improve data HTML on a prim?
[11:41] Cuga Rajal: media
[11:42] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: media on a prim is rendered viewerside
[11:42] Cuga Rajal: but uses http response I thought?
[11:43] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: umm not for moap
[11:43] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: viewers make direct connections for media on a prim
[11:43] Cuga Rajal: Yes but If I want to create dynamic HTML in world
[11:43] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: they don't even touch the server , unless you are doing dynamic textures
[11:43] Cuga Rajal: Like someone's name for example
[11:43] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: that would be a dynamic texture
[11:43] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: or could be
[11:43] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: I do it all the time
[11:44] Cuga Rajal: Agree thats one way of doing it
[11:44] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: I have a scoreboard on my coin hunt that is a combination of collected php data and dynamic textures
[11:44] Cuga Rajal: HTML text on a prim using dynamic info from in world
[11:45] Cuga Rajal: I guess youre right I could use my own website and PHP
[11:46] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: or you can use http://opensimulator.org/wiki/OsSetDynamicTextureURL
[11:46] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: but still you are pulling from outside
[11:46] Cuga Rajal: I have been trying to use HttpResponse as an experiment
[11:46] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: I use httpresponse in my scoreboard and in my grid wide tp
[11:46] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: my grid wide tp gets and adds it's locations from a database based on php info
[11:47] Cuga Rajal: I see, yeah
[11:47] Cuga Rajal: I'm going to play with that more
[11:47] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: I'm not sure what you are trying to do so a little confused
[11:47] Cuga Rajal: OK brb
[11:48] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: I have a question to a different topic, after the http discussion is finished
[11:48] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: httpresponse is for getting a rersponse from a cal to an external http source, so either way it is calling some external page that then the response must be parsed some how
[11:49] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: or you can call an internally generated url such as from another script
[11:49] Cuga Rajal: back
[11:49] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: welcome back, Ubit
[11:49] Cuga Rajal: LOL
[11:49] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: :)
[11:49] Cuga Rajal: Well I will save everyones time and not keep going on the httpresponse :)
[11:50] Cuga Rajal: Still early
[11:50] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: you can come see what I am doing any time Cuga, I'm happy to help
[11:50] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: well this bullet :)
[11:50] Ubit.Umarov @hg.osgrid.org: oops
[11:51] Cuga Rajal: Great thanks
[11:51] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: Anything more re: httpresponse?
[11:51] Andrew.Hellershanks @hg.osgrid.org: Go ahead, Eldovar.
[11:52] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: thank you, Andrew. Is anyone aware of a legal mesh avatar for Opensim? And I don't mean the stolen Athena.
[11:52] Cuga Rajal: What about Ruth 2?
[11:52] Leighton.Marjoram @grid.opensim.life:8002: Ruth and Roth
[11:52] Cuga Rajal: yes
[11:52] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Never heard of. Who is responsible, and is that open or proprietary?
[11:52] Andrew Hellershanks: There must be many of them. You can create your own avatar with the Michael Bastioni lab.
[11:52] Cuga Rajal: Roth still not done
[11:53] Cuga Rajal: In Github
[11:53] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: ah, ok
[11:53] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Thank you
[11:53] Andrew Hellershanks: http://www.manuelbastioni.com/manuellab.php
[11:53] Cuga Rajal: https://github.com/Outworldz/Ruth
[11:53] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: (and I'm sorry, I see your name only as Unknown UserUMMAU42)
[11:54] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: Shin Ingen created the Ruth 2.0 project
[11:54] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: it is opensource
[11:54] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Thank you for the link
[11:54] Leighton.Marjoram @grid.opensim.life:8002: there is also Avastar for the adventurous
[11:54] Cuga Rajal: I have Ruth 2.0 set up on my sim if anyone wants to take a look
[11:54] Andrew Hellershanks: Leighton, Right. That is another option but it is a paid one, IIRC.
[11:55] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: there are alpha's of Roth over on hgluv
[11:55] Cuga Rajal: right, no meshes yet
[11:55] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: avastar is only like 30 bucks, people pay more than that for less crappy stuff
[11:55] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: no meshes?
[11:55] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: there are meshes for Roth
[11:55] Cuga Rajal: really? I didn't see
[11:55] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: yeah
[11:56] Cuga Rajal: At least not at the Github site
[11:56] Eldovar.Lamilton @grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002: Thank you for the hint., I will look at Ruth 2.0
[11:56] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: https://github.com/Outworldz/Ruth/tree/master/Mesh/Avatar%20Roth
[11:57] Cuga Rajal: Just Blender models
[11:57] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: ummm
[11:57] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: that is how they start
[11:57] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: hehe
[11:57] Leighton.Marjoram @grid.opensim.life:8002: ok I need to head back to RL catch you next week
[11:57] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: some people have already pulled them in
[11:57] Andrew Hellershanks: ok, tc Leighton
[11:57] Cuga Rajal: I'm too lame to convert these to DAE
[11:57] Bill.Blight @grid.opensim.life:8002: I forget the sim name but they are on HGluv
[11:58] Andrew Hellershanks: HGluv is a grid name? I thought that was a region name when it was first mentioned.
