This is still a draft

This should work for Debian 4.0 and later (Tested on Debian 5.0 32 and Ubuntu 8.04 64)

At the time I write this paper the best is to use mono 2.0.1 or later. But Debian based Linux OS (Debian, Ubuntu...) still don't have packages for mono 2.0.1 and >

I will not ask you to destroy your clean Computer/server. This method will install this new mono where nothing will be destroy on your computer and where you could delete all without to disturb anymore. At any time you will be able to delete it using only one command "rmdir xxxx " and install other packages.

You will find at the end of this page 3 scripts, one is for Mono 2.0.1, the other for mono 2.2 and the last for mono 2.4.

As we talk about Debian based system who don't use the /opt directory, I decide to use it for mono. If for one reason or another you use /opt please change it to another directory (for example /mono) in the example and scripts following.

First of all, the ony thing we need to change in the standard OS will be the PATH to your bins and the library PATH, that will not eat lot of bread and can stay even if you delete this mono later.

The goal here will be to delete any mono packages on your system to compile and install the new mono in a place where we can delete and avoid it easily.

If you want to use root account: Edit your /etc/profile ...

Edit your /etc/ld.so.conf... ...

If you use another account edit your ~/.bashrc ...

Run one of the following scripts.

When, for a reason or another, you want to delete this new mono, just delete the directory where it was installed, your system will never been disturb.
