Its hard to estimate, since you can pick any timeframe and be pretty
sure you'll wont have achieved what you started out with.
We are planning to have something usable by the end of 2009. More if
there is community help. We intend to get as far as possible by
reusing existing libraries as much as possible.

I am afraid that I am unfamiliar with it. What I can say that when
making a new viewer with our resources, there is no opportunity to
explore with protocols. We will focus on reX as a module on OpenSim
for the server side.
