Hi Fleep.  I'm not sure if this helps your specific situation but I wrote up what I remember off the top of my head 
about these issues at [1] and linked this to the general user's page [2] as well as the large (and possibly out of date) 
troubleshooting page [3].  I'm not sure if this helps your specific situation but it does detail some of the debugging 
appearance commands I've added over the last year or so for various issues.

Of course, please everybody feel free to add more information to this wiki page.
