Hi Joshua,
I've tried running opensim as a windows service following the instructions
at
http://tmurlikiewicz.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=29:how-to-run-opensi
to no success.
Invariably when I try to start the service I get the error message "Error
1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a
timely fashion."
Finding some alternative methods to run applications as a windows service
from
http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/83272-how-to-run-a-program-as-a-service/ ,
I also tried the Launcher Service (option 3), but I couldn't figure out a
way to get the configuration to accept a parameter - i.e. it would accept
c:\opensim\bin\robust.exe as an executable, but no way to add the "
-inifile=Robust.HG.ini" parameter (error was something about illegal
characters in the config file).
I did get the Launcher Service to start up opensim.32bitlaunch.exe, but the
console appears on the Windows "interactive desktop" and if you close that
window I never did figure out how to get back to it.
After much futzing and trying different permutations, I've given up on
running robust and opensim as a Windows service for now. Which is kind of
inconvenient since I can't figure out a way to share access with another
sysadmin without giving them access to the windows account where the
application is running - a total violation of our campus security policies.
:(
