I have copied objects from sl to os grid using imprudence however the
textures did not come over.

Yes, Prohibited by LL  TPV Policy!

Try that:
if you open the XML  you'd see <key>imageid</key><uuid> an UUID </uuid>

When you download in SL the XML, locate the textures in your inventory and 
save them in the same directory on your disk.
Right click the texture in the invetory and Copy UUID; then rename you 
texture on your disk

To have an exemple, download an object from an Opensim grid and examine the 
result and organize the SL exported files according the xml and files from 
Opensim.. The best results are from Imprudence 1.40

Note: if you are very brave :) you can simulate an IAR
