I am working on an archiving facility which extends load/save-xml2 to 
save and restore assets as well as prim data.  However, like 
load/save-xml2 this is oriented towards use at the region console, so 
the chief uses will probably be for backup and content transfer between 
disconnected opensim deployments/applications.  Naturally, this is not 
applicable to SL <-> OpenSim transfers.
