[Opensim-dev] Translating VRML for use in OPENSIM

I have been hosting 3D Communities for the last decade and continue to have
a Blaxxun Platform 7 site (http://United3d.com) and an Active Worlds Galaxy
(http://active3dworlds.com). I have been looking for a 3D platform to
supplement these sites and eventually replace them. I am extremely impressed
with the latest version of Opensim and I want to learn everything I can
about it. It seems quite sophisticated and loaded with features. I am trying
to figure out the best tools for developing worlds for OpenSim and want to
figure out how I might recreate a site like my Blaxxun site at
http://United3d.com. So this leads me to several questions:
Can VRML be converted to the format used by OpenSim (not even sure for what
the native format is) and if so how?
What are the top 3 tools for developing worlds?
What are some recommended links for detailed how to develop for OpenSim?
What are other online resources for discussing technical questions related
to running an OpenSim site and developing for OpenSim (mailing lists, blogs,
etc.)?

Thanks in advance for any and all help you may provide.

Take care...
Bruce P.
