Yes, I recall all this. As I said, I think the Hypergrid stuff is
interesting work and I'm not trying to say its bad.  I'm advocating a
different way of developing features like this. I'm going to write up a
proposal and will repost when its up rather than continue this
discussion here. 

I'm not bashing anyones work and do appreciate all the effort that's
been put in to date (public or not).
