In today's Open Source office hours, the possibility of using libpurple 
as a communications gateway for SL was used.

It'd also have the side effect of being able to access SL with more 
accessible/lightweight clients, without needing to rely on libSL.

OpenSim already has IRC integration to allow two-way communcation from 
an IRC room, so it'd be nice to expand the supported protocols for 
two-way region chat, and later allow non SL viewers to connect to the 
region/grid to collect/respond to offline messages
