Freeswitch will work on Ubuntu- after much searching and angst, I found the following instructions worked to the letter<br>

I've got Freeswitch running on Ubuntu 10.10 but had it running under 10.04 as well.<br>
Might be worth taking a look at the Mumble implementation as well- I am going to test it- just waiting on my delivery of the 36hr day :)<br>

the user login and registration form is changed to use 2 fields for<br>
names with first and lastname, and also, the inworld user profile tabs<br>

Cough. $500??? I picked up the female avie for free when I was on RG. Nothing to write home about and surely not $500 worth of goodness. Fabulous avatars can be found in SL for $10 - $100 max. One of the reasons I stopped using RG was the lack of enough stores with reasonably priced merchandise to build and equip from. YMMV.<br>

What I'm seeing in the OP's problem statement is:<br>

people approach my prims. I can do this either with a browser or by<br>
playing inside OpenSim, and I would like to know which is easier."<br>

I seem to recall that, at one point, there was only one texture per<br>
parcel that could play a video stream, and that stream would be<br>
obtained from a specific URL set up by the land owner?<br>

This is rather tedious and error-prone, as it was an afterthought by<br>
Linden and needed to allow users to interface via the client, not any<br>
other mechanism. It might be possible to change the URL dynamically<br>
via a script, but then the URL change will affect all viewers of that<br>
texture simultaneously.<br>
<br>
The better bet is probably to trigger an external browser. This<br>
allows you to keep all of your URLs in a script, and update them at<br>
once rather than one at a time. It also allows you to control your<br>
users' experience much more closely.<br>

You hit the nail on the head, thank you. That is the point to control<br>
the "experience". As we're using this as a prison rehab tool, and the<br>
main purpose is to direct the "client" towards instructional videos,<br>
sending the "client" to a video in a browser would take load off of the<br>
server? I would think so. Do you know where I can find a how-to, written<br>
simply, to teach me how to do this? I will be forever in your debt. Ric<br>
