Contrary to what Melanie said you can use MySql8 with opensim but its not
an out of the box solution.

You need to set the default authentication plugin to mysql native
password.  In addition you need to make sure the mysql user authenticates
using mysql native password.

After that it should work fine if you also turn of ssl in the way mentioned
already.

I use MySql 8 with opensim under Linux and Windows.

With windows you can set the default authentication when you install MySql
server. I assume you can also change it using the config ini files but have
not tried under Windows.
