I am answering here your question in mantis about 0008396: Texture
priority not set properly
I am very literal, I beg you not to interpret my dryness in the
language with anger or annoyance towards you. I like to help you
(I quote your questions with quotation marks)
"Are you using a high-power gamer-level computer with super-graphics
card or a standard, every-day type computer?"

"What is the graphics level setting of your viewer? Any special settings?"
You can see in my previous answer
"Is there anything on your system to which you could attribute
uncommonly over-the-top performance?"
I do not know what mean for you "uncommonly over-the-top performance"
for me is normal from 2012.
"That all textures always rez for you puts you somewhat in an
extremely rare class of people. The vast majority of users experience
these issues. If you don't-- then additional information as to WHY
that might be the case could prove very helpful in the discovery
process. : )"
When I start in the metarverses (Second Life) the majority of users
was totally ignorant about computers or opensimulator. They do not
know how to configure nothing then was not
representative for me for nothing of they say. I had to learned all
with "test error" method. For me the sentence "The vast majority of
users experience" mean nothing.
"You claim you "can't replicate" this issue. So the primary question
is-- why can't you? If you truly can't replicate this issue... the
whole Opensim system needs to find out the core reason so we can
duplicate that."
You have given me the method to reproduce it in mantis. I can not
reproduce with your method. I am a tester. if other testers can
reproduce it then they will inform in mantis. I can't.
"Just to make sure: Are you saying that every time you call up a photo
from your inventory it almost immediately appears, no lag time, never
fails to fully rez?"
Yes and is totally normal for me. Why is not normal for you? All is my
own server and my own network!. You upload a texture and then 4 or 5
seconds later you can see it in inventory and in your viewer. If you
drop the texture over a prim inmedialy you see the texture on the face
where you drop it. I do always with the same result.
"Are you stating that when you apply a texture to a prim it applies
immediately, without any delay, fully rezzed? If so, are you using a
texture sorter? (which displays textures prior to actual use.)"
Your question presupposes that I have never used texture before.
This is not correct. My test was do uploading a new texture that I
have not previously in my inventory and drop in a face of a new cube
in the world, 20 times.
"Are you stating that when you enter a region... all textures rez, no
gray items, no fuzzy textures, ever, even when zooming in close?"
Is this a joke?. Obviously not!. But this is not what you report in
mantis. I do test for mantis as always with all new and empty cache in
viewer. Empty standalone region of last version over a new empty
database. For test I use all new and clean.
When I log in one of my regions full of prims and scripts, I must wait
to all download to my cache by a 100Mb local network and from my mysql
server and region. After all is donwload in my caché I see all this
textures immediately if I use in a new face of a prim.
How much time delay for my full regions and not a empty test region?:
Grid with only a region 1024x1024 (Robust and opensim.exe) with 6868
objects using 56895 prims and 5029 scripts instances login with clean
cache in my firestorm.
I see totally loaded all textures my 128 draw distance in aprox 30
seconds always less than 1 minute. If I zoom out of that drawing
distance I should wait a few seconds to load but not much and depend
of the distance and size of textures.
I hope my answers will help you improve your experience when you
connect to your opensim.
If you some specific technical question please I will happy to help
you and all opensim users.
My mother language is Spanish. I apologize if I have misused English.
"Just wanting to make sure on all these things, that we're on the same
page of what this Mantis is reporting. Thanks for any information you
can provide."
You are very welcome.
Luisillo.
