I believe the URL can be anything you like, since it's only used here for the creator name which can be any arbitrary 
string.

I must admit, I'm surprised to hear that.  Does another avatar see your name as the full "Avatar Name @ hg.osgrid.com"?

Crista might be able to tell us more - I didn't write this particular functionality though I am interested in it.
