[Opensim-users] what is the quickest way to import an avatar into opensim?

Actually, as far as I know, Imprudence does not export the contents of any
prim, it only exports the shape/linkset and textures, and only if you are
the creator and owner of both. This makes it much less useful in general
since any scripted items or packaged items can't be exported with
Imprudence - you only get the container prim, not any of the things inside
it.

(Which is one of the reasons I keep hoping someone will come up with a
solution to import IAR files without requiring console access - IAR is the
only format I know of that preserves any type of item and the contents
inside prims.)

So to the original question, if you are trying to export an avatar from
Second Life to an Opensim grid, good luck. There is no easy one-shot way
to do it - you can export the avatar shape with Imprudence (if you have
full permissions to the shape), you can export the various attachments with
Imprudence (if you are the creator of all the textures, and the attachments
aren't scripted, and you have full permissions to all the components), etc.
but you can't export the whole avatar easily. Clothing, unless you created
the original textures, I think you're out of luck. If you created the
textures, then you'll have to re-create the clothing item in Opensim and
then upload the texture and re-create the textured/sculpted clothing items.

If you are trying to export an avatar from one Opensim grid to another, and
you have console access, then it is fairly simple. Put all the components
of your avatar into a single folder in your inventory, then on the console
export that folder out as an IAR file. Then re-import the IAR into your
new grid and voila, all your avatar components are there.

You could also do something similar with OAR files, again if you have
console access. Box up all the components of the avatar and plop the box
down on a region, then export an OAR file of the region and re-import into
your new grid and the box will be there with all the components.

For more information about the various export/import options of these file
types, see:
