I am running an OpenSim 0.7.4 standalone installation which I access from
multiple clients on my network. I am using just one agent, and I amusing
just one viewer, the Singularity 1.7.2 (2956). Inventory items that I
create while using one client computer do not always show up when I log on
later using a different client. I thought that the inventory was kept on
the server, so I expected that I would see the same inventory regardless of
which client computer I used. Am I wrong about that? If not, what am I
missing?

Yes, it is stored on the Server. So you should have it in every viewer you
use.
As i use Singularity myself i can only say that it has no Inventory issues.
I can even open Singularity and e.g Imprudence and have all my items.

Is mayby a other User/Avatar is using those different viewers ? if so i
could think
it could be a disk cache problem .. Did you tried this with a real Grid like
e.g. OSGRID
just to make sure it is not your standalone ..

hope this helps,

Or are you testing too quickly? What I mean is, are you quickly making
an object, taking it, then logging off and coming back with another
viewer to test things? Because there is a setting in the Opensim.ini
that tells opensim that a certain time must pass before a rezzed object
becomes persistant. Or I have no clue what I am talking about. This is
the ini part I am talking about. I left mine set for the defult...

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
///////////////////////////////////////////
  ;; Persistence of changed objects happens during regular sweeps. The
     ;; following control that behaviour to prevent frequently changing
objects
     ;; from heavily loading the region data store.
     ;; If both of these values are set to zero then persistence of all
changed
     ;; objects will happen on every sweep.

     ;# {MinimumTimeBeforePersistenceConsidered} {} {Time before
un-changed object may be persisted} {} 60
     ;; Objects will be considered for persistance in the next sweep
when they
     ;; have not changed for this number of seconds.
     ; MinimumTimeBeforePersistenceConsidered = 60

     ;# {MaximumTimeBeforePersistenceConsidered} {} {Time before changed
objects may be persisted?} {} 600
     ;; Objects will always be considered for persistance in the next sweep
     ;; if the first change occurred this number of seconds ago.
     ; MaximumTimeBeforePersistenceConsidered = 600

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
///////////////////////////////////////////

Now I don't think you need to change this setting. Only that you may
not have let the object you made be created long enough before shutting
down your grid, or (might be off on how this works) left too soon to
have an effect on persistance of the object.

You need to clear the viewers cache on the 2nd viewer the object was not
created in, then the object will show up, I suspect you would have similar
issues in Second Life as well.
