Yes: the "Standalone" name speaks by itself. It's about one single instance. The only way to run multiple instances (in the same or multiple computers, using or not the same software folder) is the grid mode.
BTW, thanks Gwyneth for publishing your experience on this setup. I've been working on this approach too, and I think it's good to share that methodology.
