Well, it really depends on your system. I don't know what kind of software  
you're using, but I imagine there must be some kind of solution for any OS  
that can make automatic backups. Personally, I believe the most useful  
investment you can ever make is buying a second harddisk for backups. They  
don't need to be oar files, some software will just copy the content of  
your harddisk over as it is, so when you need to recover something, you  
can just copy over the old files.

That said, I do make OAR backups whenever I'm about to do something  
experimental on my sim, or when I'm rearranging.
