Warning here: for permanent usage, EC2 is very expensive. (At least 2x the cost of an equivalent VPS or Dedicated Server)

I can't swear for how well it works, but you someone has set up OpenSim hosting on Amazon -

so, in theory, get a EC2 account on Amazon, grab a prebuilt sim, and upload it onto sim on demand, and you are up and running.
cool idea, now if I only had an idea for what to do with it...
