Well, yeah nothing stopping someone else from implementing it too.

It just strikes me as a bit of unnessecary duplication of work - there are plenty of other things that could probably use the programmer time. TBH it's only going to be a week before we get started on this - so it's not a huge amount of time to wait.

If people want to contribute to the work - what would be useful would be a complete protocol description of the groups system, if we don't have one already.
