Greetings List :)

Just wanted to drop a line to the list and let you all know that we've (OSGrid Core Team) done a bit of research and determined the location of the file in the which git stores the hash for the the checked out tree (for lack of better terminology).

I am personally finishing up a patch at the moment to replace the appearance of the svn revision number with the git hash where it has been present before (in the client, at region server startup and at in the region server's 'show version' command output).

Please bear with me, I am not a core dev either and fumble a bit here and there with the tools, but I am rapidly improving my skills ;)

I will notify the list as soon as I have the patch ready.

ETA: sometime this evening CST.

Hope this eases some concerns among you.

Cheers!
James

On Thu, Aug 6, 2009 at 6:20 PM, Ursula MATOVA <ursula.matova@klintcentral.net> wrote:
My post was just "comments/feeling" about the migration from svn to
git ...
`
On my side ( I'm not a core-dev, just trying to be an active
reporter ) I need to be able to migrate my OpenSim server to the
latest current release to test some new feature/improvments and to be
able to quick reverse to the previous release in case of problems
( it's normal when working with dev branch ) ... And all is based on
the "release number" ... ...
We were in SVN. #10115 ... Then what about now ?
It's not clear at all, don't know the current release number ... ...
do you know it ?
What changes ?
.../...
When checking the git repository, I'm not sure to checkout the latest
dev release ... is it ? or is it the stable branch ?
Sorry, maybe my english is not good enough to follow the git/wiki
instructions ...

Could you provide a kind of "digest" for "git noobs" ( like me ) to
keep track of the latest release ? or some specific release ?

Anyway, I really appreciate everybody's work ... ( even 1st April
jokes ) ... ... ...
So, my feeling is not really important, I'll adapt myself, it'll be
only a bit more difficult for "us" to report bugs ...

Regards,
Ursula.
