The current strategy is to have child agents only in the immediate
vicinity, for starters. We can easily change this to 2-deep. In the LL
world this is a function of the draw distance and the camera, I think.
We could make it configurable in opensim. I have some applications
where I want visibility for very many regions... Although I'm not sure
how the viewer handles that. <br>
<br>
The good thing is that there's now one and only one function in OpenSim
where that decision is made; it's called IsOutsideView; if is it, the
children are nixed; we can decide what that function should do.<br>

<pre wrap="">Ouch again,
Closed while I was writing a new comment.
The only thing that doesn't work fine in my case :
Walking from a region to another ( walking on prims, not the ground ),
the "target" prim I'm supposed to walk on became "phantom" during the
crossing for a few seconds. So, my avatar fall to the ground and is
trapped in it.
Last point, even if all these improvments are very nice for "smooth
region crossing", they are not really fair, because, when regions need
to be displayed again it took time, the old method was better :) but
it's only my own idea :)
Regards.
Ursula.

Résumé: 3rd region crossing lead to regions being
unavailable
Description:
This issue is easier to describe using references to the mini map.
Login. Open the mini map. Mini map shows region AV is root in and
surrounding 8 that it is child in. Fly/walk north(direction purely
for
demonstration) to cross region border. The southern 3 regions that
the AV
was child agent in are removed from the mini map and 3 new ones
appear to
the north. This is different from previous revisions, but not a huge
functional problem. Now continue north to cross a second region
border.
The same process repeats. Again not the issue. Continue north and
cross
the 3rd region border and you will notice that the southern 3
regions still
leave the mini map, but now you do not gain any additional northern
regions. yes there are more northern regions and they are online.
In fact
at this point the AV can only travel within the remaining 6 regions
on the
mini map. It cannot travel outside of them either by fly/walk/or
tp. Also
it can be noted that this has been tested with an AV positioned in the
first northern region that fails to show for the original av. This
Av is
able to cross into the last northern region the original AV
entered. Also
for the original av after it begins to loose region availability
from this
process their client will crash after approximately 5 minutes.

Ursula, can you please add more information? Because for most ppl this
problem is gone.
- are you seeing this in osgrid or on your regions?
- standalone or grid? Is your UGAIM updated accordingly?
- what exactly do you mean by "regions becoming unavailable"? Do you
mean
the same as the original report or something else?
... any and all details are appreciated!
