Well, the article does state:

"ReactionGrid Inc. has filed for a US patent regarding virtual worlds. More specifically the process of developing, deploying and maintaining them."

Wouldn't have a snowflake's chance in hell anywhere else in the civilised world of getting a patent on that (if it is indeed just that).
