Thx Melanie.  I've actually not looked at the 1.x stuff in a few months, primarily focused on v2.x.  But I'll look for some sort of more formal communication from the team before I start communicating any patches, etc. to OpenSim.

As the license has been changed, the project may revise the
contribution policy. However, this would not cancel out the 6 months
cooldown period that would be applied to your work with the 1.x
viewer code base, since that has not been relicensed, or  at least
not yet.
