[Opensim-dev] Local assets in Grid mode

How did this get sidetracked?

I would like to come back to the original proposal. Grid mode as default
was never part of it.

The proposal is to remove "Local assets in grid mode" as a hardcoded
option and provide that mode of operation via a locally started asset
server instead. Just a code cleanup.

It's not possible to collect statistics on who is running in standalone mode, so I get the feeling that standalone will always be under-represented in guesses as to what the most common mode of operation is. The relative complexity of grid mode vs. standalone seems to suggest that only the brave are using the latter. For that reason I would give a +1 to simplifying grid mode, which may be as straightforward as a .bat/.sh file.> > John> > -----Original Message-----> From: opensim-dev-bounces at lists.berlios.de [mailto:opensim-dev-bounces at lists.berlios.de] On Behalf Of Rhian> Sent: Saturday, September 13, 2008 11:06 PM> To: opensim-dev at lists.berlios.de> Subject: Re: [Opensim-dev] Local assets in Grid mode> > +1 for interfaces> +1 for modules> +1 for variable setups> +a lot for easy> >
