[Opensim-dev] Local assets in Grid mode

Thanks for the reply. Yeah... for now I'm still somehow against removing local assets for grid mode because there are some sims out there which may still need to be portable and owners which may want to keep all their stuff with them. I'm trying to encourage a way of making local assets work in grid mode somehow so users can also keep their assets and allow their sim to be movable between grids if needed. I can't say that "local assets" are necessarily what I'm truly trying to suggest here... just a way for sim owners to keep their assets locally too and be able to use them if needed.

For now I switched my regions to grid assets too using the oar import / export commands, so since yesterday my sims are on grid assets for the first time. I guess that as long as something like save-oar and load-oar is there and working, we might be able to leave the assets thing as it is. Maybe running local assets isn't that bad though as long as someone doesn't connect near the mainland as stated by many. In the end I'm up for removing local assets in grid mode but if everything has been tried but nothing can be done to make them work better. Only thing I really hope to avoid is a "we keep your sim textures and assets and you can't do anything to get them if you need them, and without our asset server your sim will be all gray and broken" situation for grids, but so far save-oar prevents that. Maybe we will find something else soon though :)
