People like IMVU, Habbo might feel a bit threatened.  But to be
honest, I don't even think they have anything to be worried about.   I
really saw nothing new here.

And let's face it, projects like this which are spawned inside of huge
companies far from the core mission (search, etc), always end badly.
  Best case, people will use it and then upgrade to a better
experience like SL.   Worst case, it'll just vanish into irrelevancy.

I'm usually not pessimistic on Google's 20% projects, I think they're
kinda cool, but I think this one was way off the mark.  They should
have made Google Earth multi user or something.  That would have been
interesting.
