Summary0008743: Gaps in rendering of water surface between regions and even into voids
DescriptionIf I look far off with the camera at other regions, there is a small gap between those regions and adjacent voids (which render as water). I am not sure if this is anything server side or if its a viewer issue. Has anyone else seen anything like this? And indeed do you see it if you visit the same regions?

Go to for example grid ai.vue.ed.ac.uk:8002 and region Black Rock.

On the Advanced menu make sure you have "Disable Camera Constraints" on.
 
Then look off and around the edges of the nearby Space City region.

I believe this only occurs on the N and E sides of the squares. I cannot see this on S or W edges.

It also definitely stretches into adjacent voids as far as I can zoom, not just around the actual region tile square.

I think this issue has been present for a while but I am just now looing more closely at when it shows.

All regions in the visible area are 256x256 and have water level at the default 20m.

Okay... I am now wondering if this might be related to one region that is on the grid that has a water height of 20m but builds down to -20m as its mostly an undersea region. Though it is far off (deliberately)... more than 2 regions gap, but it might have an effect.

I would guess the angle isn't absolute and thus it is shifted slightly, but I don't see massive gaps on larger regions. Weird indeed. Have you tried other viewers yet?(although I suppose they all share this part of the code)

I wondered if some sort of rounding error was occurring as you look further off with the camera. I will test a but more, and with other viewers.

But I agree with Ubit that this must be a viewer issue.

I looked around a few regions running all manners of master code and couldn't see anything like in the pictures. I tried teleporting over to yours, but it couldn't find the server, are the regions still online?

Thanks @Tampa. I had the wrong grid in the hop/URL originally in the issued description, I copied and pasted it from the address bar and forgot that the grid address and port stay as the original login one even when HG travelling. Corrected in issue report now, and here also is the correct grid address

What's interesting is that there are so many regions visible, normally I only ever see the direct neighbors being rendered, never two regions over or more. Beyond that it seems the distance the water is above the surrounding void is pretty much equal all round.

I teleported to one of the edges and the effect went away, which leads me to think this must be something in the viewer not quite happy with showing regions so far from the actual avatar position.

I only every tried on a cluster of 9 regions in 3x3 config. I think this can be resolved as viewer issue as I don't think anything can be done on OpenSim end to reduce the effect without changing water height, which is not desired anyways.
