Summary0008375: Attached items do not hold positions
DescriptionAn item that is attached with an animation script in place, when detached, will not hold the set position when re-attached.
Steps To ReproduceCreate an item.
Script it with an animation (such as a drinking glass holding animation).
Wear it and adjust to proper hand position.
Detach the item.
Add it to avatar.
Result: item will attach but in odd position.
This will continue no many how times the item is adjusted, detached and reattached.
Additional InformationI've found a work-around but it's cumbersome. Create an invisible cube as the root prim. The item will attach to the avatar based on the specific rotation of that cube.

That rotation is not a simple <0,0,0>. It is odd and offset in two or three different vectors, and has to be root-prim edited to get the item into position. So while this can be "fixed" it is cumbersome and time-consuming. It can be frustrating to creators if they don't know about this bug or work-around and can't get their item to retain proper attach position.

@SnootsDwagon - Hi, I was not able to reproduce this. I ran a couple different tests according to your criteria. Tested with a single prim and multi prim object.

================================================
Test with simple rotation at <0.0, 90.0, 0.0>
================================================

Test without script: <0.035645, 0.024387, -0.047357>

Test with animation script: <0.035645, 0.024387, -0.047357>

Test with animation script and detach while animation is running (i.e. Moving arm to drink motion): <0.035645, 0.024387, -0.047357>

Test with animation script and detach while animation is static (i.e. Just holding the drink still): <0.035645, 0.024387, -0.047357>

=====================================================================
Test with "complex" rotation at <123.450005, 69.099998, 324.100006>
=====================================================================

Test without script: <0.035645, 0.024387, -0.047357>

Test with animation script: <0.035645, 0.024387, -0.047357>

Test with animation script and detach while animation is running (i.e. Moving arm to drink motion): <0.035645, 0.024387, -0.047357>

Test with animation script and detach while animation is static (i.e. Just holding the drink still): <0.035645, 0.024387, -0.047357>

I major forgot to mention: the item was MESH. Since the rotation retained when I used a standard prim as the root, it could be this only has a problem on mesh creations. Sorry for the omission. This behavior was observed by two different people running the same test.

@SnootsDwagon - Ahh I understand. Coincidentally, the item that I tested with was completely mesh, both the single prim, and multiprim test. Both the positions and rotations held consistant for me. I am using master revision of OS though; It might be worth to test with that if you are not already?

I'll check it out at various locations. Do you have a recommended region I can test at?

I do not sadly; I test on my own private server

You can test on Dev Outreach on osgrid ...

See if you get different results there ..

But if it is a asset server issue, it may not matter where you test , if you are there from the HG as your inventory will still be stored on the home server ..

Best to test with local avatars ..

I have continued to notice this issue on multiple VARs. I can provide a test object to anyone who wishes to examine this. It has been tested on both Bullet and Ubode regions. I run such tests on OSgrid on my self-served VAR Elvensong, and also on VAR ElvenWorld. I test on sandboxes as well.
