Can confirm that this happens all the time to me as well.

Currently the only reliable way I have found to use HG is to Ruth myself, tp to the destination region, then slowly add each piece of the desired outfit. If I wear the outfit prior to making the tp I will almost always be completely invisible to everyone in the destination grid (but will look completely fine in my own viewer).
Richardus Raymaker (reporter)

Correct, i see myself fine in the viewer.
but alt or others dont see any attachment.

This appears to be the same issue as 7220. Should we consolidate issues? Maybe mark as related? [^]

I understand that the devs may be considering moving inventory handling out of the simulator and into a dedicated inventory server. This would theoretically work better for inventory over the hypergrid and would probably solve this issue. Yay, OpenSim!

Bit that would mean Hypergrid is broken for lets say 6 months to 1 year. if there's not a release between with the fix for not loading attachments. this makes HG not useable. just now it start to grow. there need to be a quick fix for this. and official release. people dont want tro be without hair shoes and attachments for months.
smxy (reporter)
2014-06-27 05:09

Don't you think "this makes HG not useable" is being a little dramatic? Yes, it needs to be fixed, but really. I saw someone say this would "kill HG". If this is all it takes, then it and people using it are too fragile - let's just let it die now ...

Well, today doing more test. and that hypergrid not useable i hear from otehrs. well i agree. but today the items appeared in the suitecase. and when i wear that it works in HG. but ned to test that a bit more.

Ok, i think its not a bug, but more user error and lack of instructions.
it seems to work for me if am doing this.

-copy your avatar with clothing you want to wear into the suitecase.
-wear the items in suitecase before you Hypergrid. it only takes sometimes a bit to load.

only strange thing that happens , i see a show in the guest grid from me.

Then it seems to work fine, thats the extra protection layer the implemented. so only things in suitecase are shared with the guest grid.

It's a matter of adoption. First impressions matter and while geeks like us know that this software comes with bugs; if we want people outside of the nerdosphere to adopt opensim technology, the regression of core features such as attachments is a huge problem.

Non technical people run around and wonder why everyone is either naked and/or bald and (being non technical) they don't say "this is a bug and it will probably get fixed". They say "opensim is buggy and it doesn't work, I'm going back to facebook".

I'm going to test Richardus' instructions and see if they help. If they seem to resolve the issue, I'm going to pin his instructions to my G+ group. I'd suggest that osgrid and "opensim virtual" test them (thoroughly) and if they help, then they should also pin posts up in their respective groups with an explanation of the issue and his instructions.
Richardus Raymaker (reporter)

Previous instructions dont work. for some reason attachments dont appear again. snf there are more weikrd problems like hud i cannot deteach anymore when am back. etc.

It also seems that if you are visiting another grid and detach an attachment that contains a script, there's a chance that it will become corrupted permanently. I haven't had it happen to anything unscripted (yet) so I assume that's the culprit. So far I've been forced to re-upload half a dozen meshes in the last week or two due to that bug.

I'm seeing this same issue of missing attachments just moving back and forth between my main and test grids. It seems to happen all the time with 0.8 code, whereas it was far more sporadic with 0.7.6 code.

I am also seeing problems with scripted attachments not working after a HG jump (e.g. from OSGrid to Openvue grid - both on recent 0.8.1 dev master).

What the avatar is wearing in total as well as the contents of the suitcase are meant to be available after a HG jump so long as export permissions are not messing this up.

It would be a usability and support nightmare for less experienced users to not allow what an avatar is w4earing to jump with you to a HG destination and work there.

For the "hypergrid safari" I went on Weds Jul 2, I tried the solution that Richardus Raymaker posted; I copied my outfit (skin, clothes, hair, etc) into a folder in "my suitcase" and after I did a hop I did a "replace outfit".

I had mixed results -most people appeared to see me just fine (I verified this from snapshots they posted), but my hair didn't render for one woman (tho my tail and ears appeared to).

This is using 0.8 release; I'm not sure what was being used on the grids I hopped to.

There are 2 problems that can cause attachments to disappear after HG teleports.

The first problem caused the attachments to appear in-world (detached from the avatar). This has been fixed in Git master 899bcb7a.

The second problem is a viewer problem, and it hasn't been fixed. You can check if it's a viewer problem by using the mousewheel to zoom out of your avatar, and then back. If the attachments suddenly appear then the bug was in the viewer.

I'm not marking this bug as resolved only because the viewer bug still exists.

The fix definitely worked like a charm at today's load test. Nicely done! :)

When the avi from my standalone hypergrid region (Sappalandros) HG TPs to my OSgrid avatar's home parcel, the OSgrid avi sees the Sappalandros avi with no attachments. Yet, the Sappalandros avi sees both avis as wearing everything they should.

All of the published tricks from this Mantis report as well as the turning off the Basic Shaders prior to, then engaging them after the HGTP were unsuccessful in returning the Sappalandros avatar's attachments. When the Sappalandros avatar returned to its home region, I was unable to detach any of its attachments until I relogged it.

When the OSgrid avatar visited Sappalandros, it saw the relogged (and redressed) Sappalandros avatar with no attachments, while it was looking fine. The viewer for the Sappalandros avatar saw both avatars just fine. As the Sappalandros avatar was on its home region, I completed replaced everything it was wearing. Only then did the visiting OSgrid avatar's viewer show the Sappalandros avatar completely dressed.

Sending the OSgrid avatar home, then following up with HGTP the Sappalandros avatar back to OSgrid, the OSgrid avi once again saw the Sappalandros avatar with no attachments while the Sappalandros avatar viewer showed both avatars as fully dressed. And, once again, sending the Sappalandros avatar back home, none of its attachments could be detached without a relog.

These are the "About <viewer>..." information for the viewers and the respective regions they were logged into. The results I just posted was not tied to any particular viewer/region combination. I got the same results with the two viewers switched when logging into the regions. I also got the same results when throwing Cool VL Viewer and Kokua (both of them the latest version for Mac) into the fray.

As far as the OpenSimulator version for Sappalandros, this test was conducted today (22 July 2014) about an hour ago after I pulled the latest merges from the master into my local repository and compiled (using Mono 3.4 on OS X Mavericks).

I am open to try any other things that have not yet been discussed.

I expect that the version of Opensim being run by the destination region's server is what will determine whether attachments are successfully shown for an inbound HG visitor. It appears from your report that your OSG region is still on 219d273 which is prior to Oren's fix. If you apply the new build to that region it *should* start to work correctly for you.

I've found that then attachments go missing via that bug it's often necessary to log out, purge appearance (via OSG website it's an account option in the same list as "empty trash" once you've logged in), then wait a few minutes and log back in. Even then, sometimes you will need to completely replace what you were wearing with something else, then switch back again.

@Mata Hari

Thanks for your insight. Indeed, when I conducted my tests between my own grid, Sappalandros, and Wright Plaza, my Sappalandros avi was seen by my OSg avi fully dressed with all attachments intact. When I looked at the server version for Wright Plaza, I saw that it was created on 21 July 2014.

I think I will create a "traveling" look for my Sappalandros avi that will consist of nothing but system layer clothing and hair, and dare I say... shoes. At least until those regions I HG into are using the save version or newer that Wright Plaza is using. At least that way I will not be questioning whether I am naked or bald or looking different than my viewer shows me to be when I HG around.

@Sap: that's what I do...I have a "Ruth" stored in my appearances folder that I swap to prior to every HG tp

Well, given that the fix is only in development code, it will likely be a LONG time before the Metaverse gets it. Even if Justin pushed out an update to 0.8, people are notorious for taking forever to update. As for me, I look okay bald, and if people see me running around in my sock feet, sans my stuffed bunny, oh well! :)
Richardus Raymaker (reporter)
2014-07-23 13:13

Still hope that justin make a new release after the converence meeting is done. because then lots of bugs are fixt. And update is usefull.
Han Held (reporter)
2014-07-23 15:48

November is months away -that's a long time to make people hop around bald and without attachments. That will give the hypergrid ..and by extension, Opensim, a serious black eye.

I've tested out r/24979 on my standalone and it seems to work when people hop in to my region (their attatchments stay), I have mixed results when I hop out of my region (if it's to 0.8 or older, I lose my items; if it's r/24979 we can see our items about half of the time).

I'd really like to see this tested and shaken out and then pushed out on as a minor release ( or something); I think that would go a long way towards mitigating the damage this bug will cause --even if people are slow to update (we can at least tell them TO grab the dl and update their servers).
smxy (reporter)

I did suggest that to Justin the other day and he said maybe. :)

I'm still running r/24979 and I've hopped from my standalone to Richardus's region in metro and had him visit my standalone too. In both visits, we've been able to see each other's attachments successfully. I haven't had anyone tell me that I'm bald lately, but they tend not to say anything, though.
