Summary0006026: Avatar renders as cloud on every alternate login
DescriptionOn every ALTERNATE login (consistently):

A. The clothing download seems to take longer than usual with the progress bar saying downloading clothing. It gets to the popup that says "your clothing is still downloading - others can see you normally" message. The avatar is a cloud. The outfits window says "Changing appearance" and no outfit can be selected to replace what's worn. This does not go away even if you leave it for some minutes. Rebake textures and change appearance do not affect it, the avatar stays as a cloud.

B. Log out and back in and its fine (note the outfits window says wearing "No Outfit" but that is a different issue - Justin CC aware).

But then log out and back in and its back to A. So you can alternate between these two states by just logging in, out and back in.
Steps To ReproduceMy Outfits has 2 outfits for test. One is worn.

Logoff. Log back on. Observe if good avatar or cloud.

Repeat and observe opposite.

Repeat and observe back to original.

Try avatar textures rebake and/or change appearance and see no effect.
Additional InformationTesting with 21-May-2012 r/19083 OpenSim 0.7.4 dev master version on Openvue grid. Using LL Viewer 3.3.1, but also tested to be present if using viewer versions back to 3.3.0. I have not been able to test beyond that to check if it was present in viewer 2 variants.

Note in attached images, that in case of good avatar and cloud avatar that the avatar shape appears in the shadow (shadows are turned on in graphics preferences). All expected worn items show as worn in the outfits window for both good and cloud alternate cases.

This happens with several different outfits tested.. including one outfit with newly created four basic body parts and just wearing new pants and shirt.

I am not observing this problem on OSGrid at 22-May-2012, even when on a region updated to the latest OSGrid Release. But I understand that OSGrid may not yet be using the recent Inventory handling fixes for My Outfits:

I am trying to work out the circumstances under which this occurs. I have reverted to earlier OpenSims right back to March 2012 and the same problem is present for the problematic avatar. I also reverted to a copy of the data base as it was in March 2012, and even back to a pre 0.7.4 upgrade copy, and I see the same problem.

I deleted the avatars outfits - 2 of them plus a "new outfit" which had in it just the 4 basic body parts and pants and shirt. And wearing just the new outfit also showed the same alternating good avatar and cloud problem.

BUT... following zadark's comments.. I then recreated a completely new set of the 4 basic body parts, plus a new basic shirt and pants and wore those. I made one outfit of these new items. Now the avatar could log on and off and each time it showed as a properly rendered avatar.

I wore again the clothing items and body parts for my normal avatar and saved that as an outfit. Now on relog I got the alternating cloud and good avatar again. I noticed that the new outfit had in it only the 4 basic body parts. The shirt and pants were not listed as items in the outfit.

But an odd thing was that when I went back to just wearing the previously working 4 basic body parts, shirt and pants again, the alternating problem was back with that previously working outfit. I am still investigating, but I am stumped.

I have verified that when observed by another avatar logged into a separate viewer, the avatar appearance looks to them to also stay as a cloud on alternate logins, even when the cloud avatar viewer is rebaked.

I have investigated what minimum change of body parts is needed to make the avatar appear when its in its cloud state. I note that a right click on any body part that is unworn offers a "wear" menu item... NOT "replace" as it should be. I can select ANY basic body part (hair, eyes, shape, skin) and "Wear" it, and it had the effect of replacing the equivalent body part already worn. BUT, then each other body part has the "replace" menu item rather than "wear" as it was before the first. Wearing Any second basic body part makes the avatar render properly. Note the choice of body part can be any in any order. First when "wear" is selected still leaves the avatar as a cloud, but then the "replace" of the second makes it render properly.

Hopefully now fixed by git master commit 01a2b0b. You might need to clear client cache.

There's also some small possibility that duplicate outfit folder link that the previous buggy code would have helped create in your "Current Outfit" folder might cause problems but I'm hoping this isn't the case.
