I am unable to reproduce this issue, i am able to hear all sounds no matter how i trigger them as well others could also standing next to me, even with fully animated gesture with 3 sounds and 3 10 second delays. My testing occured on OSgrid.

I have heard reports of this problem happening on version 0.6.5, haven't tested any later version yet.

Hm, that's strange. Maybe it depends on the viewer? I use the normal SL release viewer on OS X 10.5.7: Second Life 1.23.4 (123908) Jun 11 2009 14:53:39 (Second Life Release), and I just tried again, uploaded a sound, the "Play Locally" button plays it, the "Play in World" button doesn't play anything. OpenSim version is: OpenSim 0.6.5 (Dev) .10028 (OS FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE-p2) ChilTasks:True PhysPrim:True

Just to be sure, I tried with a fresh checkout of r10030 on my local machine, OS X 10.5.7, simple standalone configuration, same default viewer as described above, with the same result as described above.

Same Mono version in both cases, actually, that wasn't yet in the Mantis drop down menu.

Are you uploading a new sound file? or attempting to use a inventory item that was uploaded quite a while ago?

I've just tested the current trunk in standalone mode and that works.

I've also tested a grid running 0.6.5 and that works (plays in world) when uploading a new sound file and playing that, but when trying to use sounds in my inventory that were uploaded a while ago, it does the same as what you said. Plays them locally but not in world.

Which is strange.

Both. At first I noticed that an old sound didn't play, but it's just the same with a newly uploaded sound.

If the 0.6.5 you're testing with is a week or so old, then it might well be that at that time it wasn't broken yet. The bug isn't back for that long.

This bug is still present in SVN (-mirror) Rev. 268 (head from Sept. 12th, 2009, don't know to what random <long git number> that tanslates to, sorry).

Notes above from me are based on tests with the normal release viewer: Second Life 1.23.4 (123908) Jun 11 2009 14:53:39 (Second Life Release)

I tested with Meerkat 0.2.2 (211) Sep 8 2009 10:06:02 (Meerkat Release) now, and with this viewer I can't reproduce the problem above, sounds work perfectly fine as expected. So it depends on the viewer somehow.

Feedback needed? What exactly? I just tested it again with current head (SVN Rev. 286). Results:

With Second Life 1.23.4 (123908) Jun 11 2009 14:53:39 (Second Life Release):

- Old sounds didn't work at all anymore, not sure why. Didn't investigate further as I don't have many old sounds anyway.
- A newly uploaded sound still shows the same symptoms as described in this bug report.

With Meerkat 0.2.2 (211) Sep 8 2009 10:06:02 (Meerkat Release):

- All sounds, old and new, work as expected. No problems.

As far as I know (I didn't verify that) the latest Meerkat viewer is based mainly on SL v1.22 viewer code, so I assume that older viewer versions do not show the problem, while newer ones do.

In my case,
It's content rated problem.
recently viewer of second life's default access content rated PG only.
opensim's new region's content rates is Mature.
so, play in world is diabled by viewer.
->make regions's content rates PG , or
->set Rating in viewer's generel environment PG and Mature.

waityet, you're 100% right, I can confirm that! That's the cause of this problem!

So basically, it seems to me that it's just an unexpected "I'm a Linden child mature" default setting in the Linden client for their weird 3-kinds-of-matures system and not a bug.

Thank you very much, waityet :)

I'm using the latest git version of open-simulator with hippo viewer and i had the same problem. I changed the viewers rating to "PG and Mature" and sound plays correctly. Sound should play with any rating. I'm not sure on why and when and how to use rating for open-simulator...(stand-alone or grid mode)

This is still an issue in latest git (0.9)?

Sounds playing form scripts: ok
Sounds playing from inventory "Play Locally": ok
Sounds playing from inventory "Play in World": fails: Nothing to hear
Sounds playing from gesture: fails: Nothing to hear

Tested with latest version of singularity and firestorm.

think this return during the merge and it is not a bug.
Viewer content rate must be "equal or higher" than the region Rating
i.e. to ear those sounds on a adult region you need the have viewer set to allow adult content.
I know any kid can changed that...
guess scripts and other sounds are the bug :)
tglion (reporter)
2016-09-04 00:25

Mhhh no, I still think this is a bug (viewer or opensim), the Region is rated Mature and the Viewer is ratet as PG, Mature and Adult

I am still not able to play sounds inworld.
In my opinion the PG/Mature Setting should not matter. Is there a switch in configuration to disable this?
UbitUmarov (administrator)
2016-09-04 00:27

it worked fine on my test
UbitUmarov (administrator)
2016-09-04 00:38

and it does seem viewer side just checked and region does send the sound
tglion (reporter)
2016-09-04 00:41

strange, i get an error if I try to change the rating from "PG, Mature & Adult" to "PG & Mature"

I try to reinstall the viewer and report back here...

check on a viewer source file. It is a viewer side restriction

I have reinstalled the Singularity-viewer to latest offical Version (1.8.7)
I have reinstalled the SIM to latest git:
commit b5e7816b77824c64371f55dcb1c1a667cb662a68 (HEAD -> master, origin/master, origin/HEAD)

The Viewer is now configured as "PG & Mature" in general.
The SIM is configured as Mature

I have still the issue. I can't hear any sound in gestures or from inventory inworld (Play locally works). Playing from scripts works. System-Sounds works.

Strange, I am realy the once have this issue? What is going wrong on my side?

Mhhh on osgrid I have not this issue.
I don't understand why it is not working on my grid.
It is exactly the same SIM-Version I have running there.
Strange. Mhhh can the asset-service (robust) be the problem?

UbitUmarov (administrator)
2016-09-04 02:00

you may have a issue on configurations
account service maybe ???

Currently in the GridCommon.ini configured:
    ; Change this to your grid-wide user accounts server
    UserAccountServerURI = "${Const|BaseURL}:${Const|PrivatePort}"

and in OpenSim.ini this:
    BaseURL = "" [^]
    PublicPort = "8002"
    PrivatePort = "8003"

Can you see any incorrectness on this? is the Robust-Server.

I have found the problem in this condition in Sounds-Module:

if (!ssp.ParcelAllowThisAvatarSounds)

The question is here, why is this false on my grid and in osgrid true?

To solve the problem I commented out this temporary now until I have solved the main problem.

I have found the main problem in my case:

It was the wrong handling of boolean in sqlite-database for the fields SeeAVs, AnyAVSounds and GroupAVSounds.

I add a patch here, wich solve this problem for me.
