|0003524||opensim||[REGION] Specific OpenSim Module||public||2009-04-25 07:47||2019-04-23 15:52|
|Target Version||Fixed in Version|
|Summary||0003524: [FreeSwitchVoice] Service restarts|
|Description||Before FreeSwitch can be restarted, the opensim region service specified in /usr/local/freeswitch/conf/autoload_configs/mod_xml_curl needs to be shut down, because otherwise FreeSwitch tries to get config info from the opensim [FreeSwitchVoice] module of that region, that currently is not provided by that module. The result is that voice does not work.|
Beside that all regions using a restarted voice service also need to be restarted, because otherwise voice will not work properly (for users arriving, that are not connected to the same voice service already). The [FreeSwitchVoice] opensim module should automatically reconnect as soon as the vocie service becomes available again.
Only with these changes it will be possible to manage the voice service easily and voice service crashes will cause far less service disruptions as today (luckily FreeSwitch is very reliable and crashing very seldomly).

There are two separate issues here, one is the problem of having to have the OpenSim region shutdown when freeswitch starts. This is due to freeswitch trying to fetch some configuration files via from opensim when it starts, if opensim is started then freeswitch doesnt get configured properly.
The second issue is the location of the freeswitch directory and dialplan. Having them served by a region means a single point of failure for a grid using voice, for grid use of voice we should either create a new grid service specifically for voice, merge it in with one of the existing grid services or alternatively create some other form of directory using for example php that is completely seperate from ay region or grid. It may in future require access to the grid database however to resolve users.
Rob, would that mean we would need to create a UGAIM likeness server that only handles the voice things like the directory and dialplan.
Because that would be something like the Messaging Server, a "standard" server that sends out the info a region would need
Beside having servers at grid or at region level, it would also be possible to have services for a group of regions.
Isn't a voice service something that could be implemented by a server, that is not at grid level and not integrated in the region server, but runs for a group of regions, for which it provides voice functionality including the required voice network bandwidth?
